Sheinbaum demands the US curb arms trafficking: "Even grenade launchers cross the border."

During her morning press conference this Tuesday, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo strongly criticized the United States government, pointing out that it has not stepped up its efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking to Mexico, which has allowed criminal groups to acquire even grenade launchers.
Sheinbaum recalled that a significant seizure of weapons was recorded in the United States a few months ago; however, she lamented that after that operation, "vigilance diminished" and there has not been a sustained effort to curb this phenomenon, which, she asserted, directly affects the security of Mexicans.
"It's a matter of shared responsibility. It can't be just one-sided. The amount of weapons used by criminal groups, organized crime in Mexico, comes from the United States," he declared from the National Palace.
In this context, the president revealed that in a telephone conversation with former President Donald Trump, she directly raised the seriousness of the situation. "I asked him: How can you explain that a grenade launcher owned by an organized crime group is illegally entering my country from your country? Where are the checks you're supposed to be doing at the border?" she said.
Sheinbaum emphasized that her government is doing its part in terms of security, but stressed that the United States must assume its responsibility and strengthen inspections within its territory.
The president assured that this issue will remain a priority in bilateral relations and that her administration will continue to demand concrete actions to stem the flow of arms that fuels organized crime.
"We do our job, but they have to do it too. We're not going to stop pointing this out," he concluded.
